Compositional Exercises

Some days pictures just don't come easily. On this occasion I was with family and we were exploring with a guide. So I was not entirely in photo mode. Having a most interesting time, for sure.

We happened upon a synagogue in Sophia undergoing major renovations. Third biggest in Europe and an important one. I wasn't into reading all the blurb on offer. Rather I was yearning to make pictures.

As with all things, practice is important. If you're a musician, you need to practice your scales, arpeggios etc. Singers need to exercise their vocal muscles and hitting pitch.

Photographers too can do this sort of practice. Indeed, must do. No matter how accomplished.

I began compositional exercises, moving about the place making tight pictures. Mostly to exorcise the photo demons demanding me to make work.

Here are a selection of images made yesterday.

Thanks for your time.
