Grey to Green

Hello, dear readers.

It's very likely that herself, myself and our two lads, at least for a while, will move out of London soon for rural Kent but close to fast trains to urbanity. 

I don't know how this will impact the work I make. But I'm excited to find out. London has been a muse of sorts for years. 

I think this has influenced the pictures I've been making over these last few days. Knowing there's bucolic greenery ahead for me, I've been drawn to grey concrete and other hard surfaces with a generous hint of bleak.

I was going to sit in that chair to take in the view but I forgot. Might go back and see if it's still there.

The above was made in Crystal Palace Park just up the road. It's an amazing place and I will miss it. It's being renovated throughout at the moment. The Italianate terraces are spectacular again. But there's also copious bleak concrete in the park too which I've always been drawn to.

Trace Small Publishers Book Fair

Last weekend I had a table at this event. My first time in Plymouth. Long drive from London. Sold one book, Hinterland. Disappointing financially but a great experience as it was my first solo table. Previously at such things I was part of a group.

Many wonderful conversations were had from which I gained copious knowledge both from visitors and from hugely experienced fellow exhibitors.

This was their first event and it clashed with open studios and another couple of high profile events in the city. Perhaps next year they'll choose a different date or perhaps be listed in the open studios blurb. We'll see. But off to a good solid start in a magnificent venue.

It was a perfect dry run for me as I prepare to take a stall at Greenwich Market in the coming weeks. More on this next time.

HInterland is now available to order. I have completely overhauled it from the original book also previously called Southeast and SE26. Same edit and sequence but better printing and substantially more robust. An altogether beautiful object. I surprised myself.
