One at a time

© Paul Treacy 2026. Image made in Bulgaria last week.
Previously I was hired to illustrate stories, ideas, buildings, or whatever an assignment required. These days I photograph mostly for myself. On my terms. Wherever I find myself and for whatever reason.
I’m constantly seeking that one single stand out image that can work entirely by itself to hold a viewer’s gaze. To cause a viewer to ponder, question, or simply enjoy without the need for any additional works.
But in searching for such an image, a sequence may emerge where photographs work together and so this yields a spread which can form a small book.
The image above delighted me. The drain pipe is miss-aligned to its overflow receptor. The stairs are bent out of shape. The colours are lovely. As is the light. And this image satisfies me. Whether it satisfies anyone else is immaterial. However, if I like it and think it’ll work as a print, then likely others will too.
This has been my compulsion since art school. And will continue to drive my existence until my dying day.
Thank you for your time.
